Washingtonette Days

I spent the spring of 2007 and the fall of 2008 living in D.C., and I thought I would post some pictures to show you a little of that time in my life! I had the fantastic opportunity of interning for my Alabama Congressman, Terry Everett, during my junior year of college. It was such an amazing opportunity that I thought I wanted to spend a few years working in government affairs. So, I gave D.C. another shot after I graduated college by moving up again the fall of 2008. My love for the city quickly turned a 180 and I no longer felt like D.C. was the place I wanted to be. Hence, moving back to Central Virginia.

Would I ever want to move back there? No. Am I glad that I no longer will be going up there for work? Yes. I am so thankful and excited to be getting married/starting a new career/settling down and staying in the quaint, beautiful mountains of Virginia. I know that time in my life was a growing experience and holds a big place in my heart. I learned a lot about myself not only personally, but professionally as well. I met some fantastic contacts through networking and met some fun friends while I was there! I know not many people have the opportunity I experienced and I don't take that for granted.

D.C. ..... you are my love/hate relationship.

  1. Oh the Rayburn building. I interned at The Pentagon last year and we had a "field trip" up to the hill. I miss DC.

  2. How fun. I went there in 8th grade and would love to go back as an adult now.

PS, love the houndstooth dress you have on.

  3. I know what you mean about D.C.! I lived there for about 6 months in college, and interned for an agency of the White House. I had always thought I would go into governmental affairs, but after living there, I just can't anymore! For me, I like visiting, but I couldn't move there and go into that field anymore, for many of the same reasons as you! I love the city, but I sure am glad I didn't move back there after graduating like a lot of people in my program did!

Good for you that you now have what you want!!! :)

  4. I just found your blog the other day. The crazy part is that I lived in the DC area for a year too (kind of have the same love/hate as you) and if I had to pick two restaurants to talk about it would have been Clyde's and Matchbox too. Just thinking about that crab artichoke dip is making my mouth water!

  13. What an exciting thing to experience at such a young age! Good for you! Random observation: I love the picture of you in the black dress with the pink necklace on (it is on the right side of your blog). Where did you get that necklace? Just thought I would tell you that I think you look gorgeous in that pic!

  16. I lived in DC for three years after I graduated from college and I must say, I really do have a love hate relationship with that city! We moved for graduate school and there are still some aspects of the district that I miss- not sure if we'll ever go back!
