I am spent. I am officially living on soup and a prayer until next Thursday. I now understand why my mother always said, "Be sure to always have a little money put away for unexpected emergencies."
I tell you, it is not even worth having a car in D.C. I have racked up FOUR parking tickets in the three months I have lived here. One for $50, 2 for $60, and luckily the $100 ticket was waived after I wrote a heartfelt plea to the DMV. On top of paying off tickets this week, I told you I had my car towed Monday morning in Lynchburg, and it was $140 to get that back. That was about $300 totally thrown away to nothing. There goes groceries for this week and a good chunk of cash towards my Discover bill.
Life... even though there always seems to be something new to frustrate you, you just have to laugh and hope that next month will be easier.
I know this is random, but I wanted to 'fluff' up my bedding tonight in the midst of cleaning (cleaning on Friday, Halloween night - ya, I have no life). Here is what I came up with:

A woman's purse, handbag, clutch, tote, pocketbook... whatever you call your permanent staple to your wardrobe -- I believe that given a quick peek into a woman's purse, you will know exactly what she is like, what she does, and what type of personality she has.
Handbags are funny.... do you ever catch yourself wondering what is in someone else's? A woman's purse holds her life. Literally. Her cell or (cells); makeup colors to match her skin; her wallet with every piece of identity information: from the SS#, credit cards, debit cards, pictures of loved ones, coupons to favorite stores, frequent buyer cards to spend more money at her favorite stores; driver's license; ... you get the idea.
So, here's a look inside my J.Crew bag that I carried this week:
Guess Wallet
Clinique double-face makeup
Hair pins
Bath & Body Works lotion
Ipod Nano
Blackberry Curve
Blackberry Pearl
MAC lipstick
Lancome lipstick
LipSmacker lip balm
Aleve
Monthly Planner
Business Cards
Company pen
Airhead wrapper
I subscribe and love to read Real Simple magazine. I find that they offer unique tips for everyday life. One thing I found and put to use today was this craft tool to simplify your money and budget-life. Mint.com. Go check it out!
On one page, you can list every account you have! From checking and savings accounts, all those credit cards, loans, investments, etc. It will let you set up your budget and will alert you via email or text when you go over. It gives you a pie chart to categorize your spending habits.
I learned I spent over $100 in coffee this month thanks to Starbucks and Caribou. Wake up call!
You will need about 30 min to an hour set it all up, but it's worth it.
I returned home this morning from Lynchburg, VA. It is about a 3.5 hour drive. I love the drive -- right up 29N is beautiful!
Looking out my office window is a tad depressing. It's dark and rainy. All I want to do is curl up at home with a movie. Around 2 pm, I went down to Starbucks to grab a coffee, and saw a homeless man in the store trying to stay dry. I felt so bad. What things I take for granted.
Alumni Weekend at Liberty University was a blast! A lot of friends made it up (or down) for the weekend. I drove in Thursday night and spent 3 wonderful days with friends. Friday, I spent the day with Dave. We went to our normal stops such as Target, did some damage at the mall, and then met up with Jen for an afternoon at Barnes & Noble. That night, Ben and I, Jen and Dustin, and Dave met at Waterstone- Lynchburg's trendy pizza restaurant. It is very good! Then, we went back to Jen's and watched "The Family Stone" and Dave made his famous cookies. (Ya, I ate a ton this weekend).
Here I am at the Fountain. This serves as a huge joke with Dave, and so, we had to get a picture of me with it.
Good memories in the Vines Center. Being back at LU was bittersweet. I made such sweet friends and shared great memories. Dave and I were walking through the halls and looked like crazy idiots when we discovered the 3rd floor of DeMoss. We walked all through there saying.. 'Wow..."... it was a hoot!
Saturday, Ben had a lot of homework to catch up on, so I hung out a bit with Meghan. It was rainy that morning, so we hung out at her house. Thankfully, it turned into a beautiful day for the game! We only stayed until half-time because LU was winning by a lot, so after a visit to the press-box to visit Doc and Ms. Godwin, we went home to chill.
Jen and I at the Homecoming game!
The 3 of us...
Sunday, Thomas Road Baptist Church was crazy! It was packed. We arrived 10 minutes late (like usual) and had to sit in the balcony. I was scheduled to leave Sunday afternoon to come back to DC, but when I went to get my car, I discovered it had been towed the night before. So, $140 and a trip to Appomattox later, it was dark and I did not feel comfortable driving back. So, Dave and I spent one more night reading magazines (Ben had to leave for a work trip to South Carolina) and then he, me, and Courtney talked for several hours at Jen and Court's apartment. Dave made more food--brownies. haha.
I changed my blog address due to some crazy lady from a company (which will remain nameless) who filmed a documentary called Running in High Heels. She had way too much time on her hands, clearly why I am sure none of you reading this have ever even heard of her 'film.' Moving forward... I am still blogging.
My time in DC so far can be characterized by one word: lonely. This has been just a trying year in general. I have lost a good friends due to various circumstances. Some best friends moved away to begin the new chapter in their life, as I did. Some people who I really liked turned their back on me... it's not fun... and I hope this year will be the end of it. I have tried to sign up to be in a small group at McLean Bible Church. I did that four weeks ago, and I check up on it periodically. They can't seem to find an available group within the zip code I live in. I am really just needing to get plugging in somewhere...somewhere with godly girls my age... hard to find that in DC. So, I find myself going to Lynchburg like 2 weekends a month. Which I don't mind.
On a different note, I don't like not being liked. I have always been liked by everyone (or at least I think so). This new job of mine (I RA on the side for free rent) is really testing me. I need to come to grips that there will be those who despise authority, and I just need to let it go and not care if they like me or not. It's hard to find that boundary between friend and me being the authority. I don't want to seem unapproachable or that I can't have fun, but there is that line that needs to be drawn. I am still trying to figure that line out. This semester has been a lot of learning, and I am sure the semesters following will be easier.
Today is a no-gym day. Although I don't like it when I cannot make it to the gym, I am sure to really pay extra attention to what I eat... so, today tomato soup is for lunch!
