Scary Morning

I had pretty much the scariest morning I have had in a long time. Nothing like being in a huge city, or your nation's capitol, and not know where you are. And, turns out you are in probably the 2nd worst part of town.

I had a meeting with a company at 11 am, so I left my apartment at 10 to make sure I got there on time and could find it. I decided to drive since I have my car to cut time using the metro and then having to ride the metrobus for 45 min. each way. Yuck. I start off going down 6th street and within 5 miles I realize that the nice townhomes of Capitol Hill where I live, soon turn into the total ghetto zone of Maryland. I tell myself to breathe and continue on with my route -- clutching my directions as if it were the last thing I owned. I immediately began seeing how I looked like a misfit in this area by the stares I was getting by local walkers as I drove by. SUV with a perky blonde girl and aviator shades doesn't quite seem to fit. I get on this main road which I am only supposed to be on for like .3 miles, but I never find my exit ramp to US-50 E! I can't drive slow because cars behind me will blow their horns like there's not tomorrow. So, I finally am like.. "OK, I am LOST. Where the heck am I?!" I turn around at a local Safeway (ew, again) and make a big U-Turn.

Feeling like an idiot, I called the lady at this company and told her I was very sorry, but that I was very lost and would have to reschedule our meeting. She understood, which I was grateful.

I just found out I have to go to the DMV on Saturday morning to get a parking permit, and guess where it is? Yep...that road I was on. So, I am going to ask a nice male intern to accompany me. =)

Word to the wisde: Don't get lost on Brentwood Ave. NE. It will be scary!

Body Pump

Okay, so I went to Body Pump class at Gold's Gym tonight and right now I am pretty much laid out on my bed (my favorite VS PINK sweats on) and I can't move! Now, I would say I am decently fit.... I work out often, but this class is intense! I was ready for it to be over...

It's going to give amazing results in due time, that's for sure.

Check it out:

The art of getting to work

Okay, so I say I am running in high heels...but that more so is just a characterization of my life in it's current state.

However, trying to get to the office by 9am in this huge city with the massive amount of people trying to do the same thing you are takes such an art. I haven't quite figured it out yet. First off, I don't wear my heels during my 30 min. commute to work. No way. I, like the rest of DC, wear my flip flops or tennis shoes with my suit to work. You would be crazy not to. I know I look ridiculous, but we all look ridiculous together!

If you move up here, there is one thing you need to be good at: Walking. I do have my car here, but I do not use it during the week. (Just on the weekends to go to Frontline and Harris Teeter). I have already lost 4 lbs in one week without trying -- it's just from walking everywhere. Okay, so here I go: I leave my apartment loaded up with 3 bags. My briefcase, Vera Bradley duffel for the gym, and of course a big purse. I look like I am waddling down the street just trying to hold on to what I own. I walk 4 blocks to the Capitol South metro and claim my seat once I board. Six stops later, I get off the metro and then walk one more long long block to 1015 15th Street. By this point, I am wondering why I even wore makeup or did my hair, because due to the hot temperatures right now, I am seriously sweating. (I am a sweater...I am not one of those girls that 'glisten'). I throw my bags down and run to the AC unit in my office and turn it on high.

I sure do miss the days of driving 5 miles to LU and parking. So, all you people who complain at LU about having to park too far, come and join me on my commute to work and you will then actually thank LUPD for allowing you to have that parking spot. =)

Move-in weekend

I honestly don't think I have ever worked so hard in my life. Living on the 3rd floor of my apartment building in Lynchburg, VA, you can only imagine how hard that can be on your legs after walking up and down 50 times or more carrying heave furniture and boxes. And, my poor dad! He has bad knees, and was just starting to struggle towards the end of the 4-hour move out. I felt really bad!

After the truck was loaded up, we drove the 3.5 hour drive to DC. It was a beautiful drive... I always love it. My dad had only slept for 3 hours the night before, so I called him probably 10 times to make sure he was awake. We got into the city and were stopped twice by Capitol police officers. They don't like big, unidentified trucks pulling through Constitution Ave., (the street in-between the Capitol and Senate office buildings), so since I live on Constitution, we had to detour around.

We arrived around 9 pm, and then the unloading started. By this time, it was a miracle from God that I was still able to move. We were exhausted. Luckily, we had the help of 3 guys I work with to help me get up to my 4th floor studio apartment.

I am now settled in--and loving it. Here are pics:

That candle is in the new Fall collection at Bath & Body Works. It is called "Leaves" -- go get one!

A little messy, I know, but, all that is put away now. Just wanted to give you the general idea of it. And, I love my hard-wood floors!
