Random Collection

I have had a great week -- it's been so busy, but I'm hanging in there. On Monday, I celebrated the Bama win watching the game with my grandfather. Other than work, running, and getting ready for my weekend trip, I haven't done much else! I find that I have little time to blog lately unless I make my posts on Sunday and schedule them for the week. If not, you're stuck with a random post like this that I end up writing at midnight. Have a great rest of the week!

My sis and I

No, I don't take photos in restaurants holding up menus on a daily basis. Something happened at Tin Lizzy's in December that my roomate, Lauren and I call Serendipity. I had to snap a shot of myself in there the next time I ate there and send it to the appropriate source who would 'get' the reason I took a photo. Maybe one day I can share?

Christmas present from my parents -- Love them! From Stella & Dot, of course!

And I love this poncho -- another gift my mom picked out. I love the plaid!

ZOOMA Atlanta

When I looked up ZoomaRun.com, I was so excited to learn that the normally-planned November race series is now coming to Atlanta for the Spring -- April 22! It will be the perfect start for me to begin the race journey. I have been a bit on the fence about when to start and which race to start with, as I am obviously a novice runner. Though not exclusive to women, ZOOMA does cater to females (honestly, a man may even feel out of place!). I hope I can talk my friends into doing it with me! I don't know which part of it I am more excited about -- a girls weekend, the running expo, the lake or the race itself!

Stella & Dot Spring Line

You all know how much I love Stella & Dot! Each piece is just so unique! I wish I had ample cash flow to purchase more pieces, but for now, I can ooh and ahh. The Spring line launched on Sunday, January 8 and here are my favorites -- of course, I did throw in some of my favorites from previous seasons that are still available!

Gym Attire

Today is just random snapshots of what I wear to the gym. I admit that during college, I used to be the girl that went to the gym in full makeup, cheerleader hair ribbons, pink everything, and so on. I'm sure it was a sight to behold. What was I thinking?! Not comfortable or practical at all! These days you will find me at the gym in hats most of the time so that I can hide (seriously!) and not have to talk, make eye contact, etc. and just focus on my workout. I don't wear makeup to the gym. The thought of makeup and sweat mixing in my pores is frightening & unhealthy for the skin.

I'm a big fan of Under Armor for the gym.

Puzzled with Pinterest

I took the plunge and got on Pinterest a few weeks ago. (my Pinterest site is here) Sad thing is that so many people are waiting for an invite & I had an account that was empty of pins! I didn't think (and may still think) I don't have time for this. My blog is my priority, interacting with Twitter is a second priority...... I am seriously puzzled with Pinterest! I wonder if its just a hype... what do you think?

Nonetheless, I am on it, so if you're super bored, feel free to check out my boards. I will warn you that they are predominantly fitness related. I am not planning a wedding and I am not decorating a house, so I choose not to engage in wasting my time with such pins that don't apply to me at the moment. Plus, with sites like Houzz.com, I feel that my pinning of decor would get out of control! And I can't afford that time right now.

Back to my original question, though..... what do you all think of Pinterest?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all! I had a great 3 day weekend -- it was very relaxing. After an early dismissal and a spray tan appointment on Friday afternoon, I got a call from some of my Liberty friends telling me they were in town for the weekend "In town" in Atlanta can mean many areas of this massive city, but I was excited to find out they were staying in a hotel about 4 miles away from my condo! I was able to grab dinner with them and hang out a few other times that weekend.

Other than lots of sleep, getting dressed up on Saturday night, and seeing the movie, New Year's Eve (which was so cute!), I didn't do a ton this weekend! I reflected.... grabbed Starbucks and took a drive with no destination in mind. I remember last New Years, I was hopeful that 2011 would have been better than my 2010. But I really can say without sounding mopey that the past two years of my life have been very difficult. When this time frame in most lives are spent beginning to settle down, my life has been a bit chaotic and up in the air. There's been a lot of figuring out 'who I am' & 'what's going on' & 'what God wants me to do.' To say that there hasn't been nights filled with tears would be an understatement. I guess everyone at some point in their lives experience this weird time. Mine just happens to be now. It's a bit scary not knowing what tomorrow holds, but I can rest assured that I am in God's hands and that I will trust in Him.

One area of my life I know I need to work on this year is forgiveness. Through the hurt, I have healed, but the bitterness and resentment I have held in my heart still remains toward both the heartbreak & the job loss. I may not have been done right, but life isn't a bouquet of peaches & I need to forgive. Those on the outside looking in might would say, "But look at what you have now amidst all the heartache and hurt?" Yes, I got a cool fresh start in an amazing city & yes, I got an even better job than I had less than 3 weeks later, but I'm still bitter. I don't want to be.... I know that's not what God would have me to be. I pray this year for a forgiving heart towards those two situations.

That being said, I give 2012 up. I am letting go of trying to mold my life into what I think it should be or what I think should happen. I am going to just roll with it, hope for the best, be as happy as my heart will allow and keep pressing forward. Can I say that 2012 will be an amazing year? I can't really say that because I don't know..... but what I do know is that I pray it's a much easier and happier year than the last two.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Patagonia: Ad Spotlight

I write advertising spotlights from time to time when I deem an ad or visual campaign appealing enough to mention. Our society is so drenched in advertising's millions of messages, that I like to point out (in-my-mind) well-done initiatives & executions.

I subscribe to daily emails from ADWEEK.Normally the day is way too busy to read through them, but I clicked on this particular email on Tuesday. Patagonia launched a few ads & digital messages with the headline, "Don't Buy This Jacket." Playing up the environmental appeal to consumers, which can prove risky at times, I think they took a huge leap in basically --- calling themselves out.

If you aren't aware of the context of this ad, Patagonia has a jacket (the R2 Jacket) that uses enough water to meet the daily dietetic needs of 45 people. That's just tipping the iceberg & I won't use this space to relay the rest, but please go read up on it! A further synopsis of the development process of this one jacket can be found here.

The good news is that Patagonia encourages its loyal consumers to "Take the Pledge" by pledging to limit the amount of jackets bought & being sure to recycle a jacket when its worn out. (Patagonia accepts worn jackets & will recycle accordingly.)

"...as is true for all the things we can make and you can buy, this jacket comes with an environmental cost higher than its price," reads the ad copy from Patagonia.

Back to why I chose it as an ad spotlight...

There is a lot of discussion around this campaign. While some think it shows Patagonia's genuine concern for the environment by providing a raw & truthful claim about its own product, others feel that they will benefit from consumer reaction to the ad. In turn, lifting them up high on a pedestal which then, in turn, furthers customer loyalty and ultimately ....  sales.

Though it can be argued both ways, my opinion is that this was fantastic. It's bold. From an aesthetic creative standpoint, the clean ad and compelling copy (text) would stop me in the streets, stop me from turning the page of a magazine & with an email subject line of "Don't Buy This Jacket," you better believe open click rates skyrocket. It makes people curious as to what the ad means and draws them in to find out their message.

They take a top-selling product, back-track it & present the real product to the consumer -- but though there are disappointing flaws from an environmental standpoint about the make-up of this one jacket, Patagonia PR kicks in and says, "Hey.... let's do something about it," by encouraging the Pledge & limited purchasing with higher recycling rates.

Well done, Patagonia.

Non-Vain

I hope I don't come across as straight-up vain, but my sister, AshlynJoy Photography, hasn't done a photoshoot of moi in a while! Word on the street is that I am not the best client and get very fidgety....! Here a few she snapped after our big Thanksgiving meal. Keep in mind, you Atlanta or surrounding suburb areas -- she has moved to Georgia and is available most weekends for shoots --specializing mostly in family, solo, engagement and baby/newborn.

Thanksgiving Break

I haven't had a vacation all year. Not to say that this was a vacation, but I sure did enjoy my 4 day weekend over Thanksgiving Break. I was the one flying down I-85 trying to get home so I could chill the entire weekend. I literally shut my phone off and barely got on the computer. I did play with my parents' iPads. Now, I officially want one. (Let's start with the iPhone first, Brittney). I have mentioned before on the blog that Thanksgiving isn't the 'big' holiday with my family. Christmas is. So, every year we seem to do something different for Thanksgiving. Sometimes we even eat out! This year, though, was a quiet one with just the four of us. I enjoyed it and enjoyed all the sleep I got to catch up on.

Casual lunch at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

It's tradition that we pick out our tree the day after Thanksgiving. Some years we like a huge one, but this year we didn't care so much. Of course, we get our tree at the local Home Depot!

So, I don't talk much about my job on the blog (specifically), but I wanted to explain this photo! As you know, I work in marketing for the Home Depot -- their headquarters are located here in Atlanta!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well! I can hardly believe it's already time for the Holidays -- it's unreal how fast this year flew. I hope to enjoy it as much as possible.

Volume x 10

Two weeks ago, I was so excited to get an email from Misikko to try the HANAair Professional hair dryer. Not being just an average product review, I was even more excited to learn that it was mine to keep and continue to use! A big 'thank you' to Misikko for the gift and pretty package!

I have used the HANAair dryer for two weeks now and absolutely love it! It dries my hair quickly and efficiently & leaves me with lots of volume. My hair feels silky. It's seriously an amazing product.

The HANAair Professional dryer displays Ion Technology to condition the hair while drying -- there is zero static when I am done. It has multiple heat/cool & speed settings that I use depending on if I have time for a good blow out or if  I need it to work a 5-minute magic dry before heading to work.

I highly recommend this hair dryer and am so excited to have it for my own daily hair blow-outs!
